F.A.Q.'s

Do you accept Credit Cards/Tech-cash/IIT Bonus Points?

Cash is king. Some vendors may choose to accept checks and a few might even bring their aging mechanical credit card machines, but cash is never turned away. IIT forms of payment will not be accepted since our vendors are not affiliated with the university. The $5 entry fee is cash only (free with an IIT ID) so we can keep our costs down. For nearby ATM locations see our map.

What is the HUB?

The HUB is the acronym for the Herman Union Building, or Hermann Hall which is the location of our Bike Swap/Expo. IIT students are either geeks or we're lazy but we use acronyms or abbreviations for almost everything on our campus. Other buildings you might need to know are State Street Village (SSV) which are the dorms along State street in front of The Green Line "EL" stop, and the The McCormick Tribune Campus Center (MTCC) which is the orange Building Under The Tube (??!!) that has a Seven-11 containing a Citibank ATM as well as some other places to purchase food or beverages. Also, please do not confuse E1 (our engineering building) with the "EL" (Chicago's elevated trains).

Are there any ATM's located near-by?

There are two ATM's, a Chase and a National-City, located in the North-East corner of the HUB. There is a Citibank ATM located across State Street in the Seven-11 inside the Campus Center (the orange building under the tube) and there is a Harris Bank ATM located just inside the west entrance of the Campus Center (the glass doors that have the huge face on them). There is also a National City Bank a few blocks away at State street and 35th if our ATMs runs out.

Who can purchase Vendor Space?

Anybody with anything bicycle (or tricycle?) related to sell or promote can purchase a vendor space. Typical vendors include manufacturers, bicycle advocacy groups, teams and clubs, retailers, and individuals either cleaning out their garages and basements or selling vintage items. If you've got a box full of beat-up used cranksets and want to try selling them by all means you are welcome to.

Are vendors allowed to share their spaces?

If all you have is said box of cranksets and you want to share your vendor space with a friend/neighbor/rival you have our blessings. You are responsible for finding who you will be sharing you space with and how the fees will be divided. We only accept one payment per vendor space.

Can transactions be made during set-up?

There's a not-so-secret technique that some individuals use which involves purchasing a vendor space so that they can get in before the doors open to the public there-by getting first dibs on other vendor's products. It is up to each vendor to decide whether they want to conduct business during their set-up time, but please be respectful of the other vendors who are actually setting up and be respectful to the organizers by at least grabbing a few things out of your friends garage to sell so that your space isn't left empty. If you are causing problems we will not hesitate to remove your vendor pass and make you wait until the doors open to the public.

Will refreshments or lunch be available?

Our school has opened a brand new Einstein Brothers right in the building. We are currently in working with them to have it open for the event. Other options include the campus coffee bar for drinks, center court cafe for food, and Seven-11, all of which are located across State St in the Campus Center (the orange building under the tube). There is also a Jimmy John's and a Starbucks located a few blocks away at 35th and State st.
